Part One:

Abby Aster was on her way home from school. It was a blustery day, and with every step she took, the wind seemed to blow her back. She knew her parents would be expecting her for dinner, but she was doing the best she could. After what seemed like hours, she finally reached the door, and opened it. Her bright eyed Chihuahua, Cinnamon, greeted her. "Hey, Cinnamon. I'll get you your dinner soon." said Abby. "Abby, can you come in here?" her mom called from the kitchen. "Coming." said Abby. She walked into the kitchen, and sat down, looking eagerly at the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. "Eat, and we'll talk to you while you're eating." her dad said, scowling. Abby gulped, and started eating. "I'm afraid we have some bad news for you." her mom said. Her dad sighed, and went on. "Abby, you know how hard its been since I lost my job. And we've come to the conclusion that we can't take care of you anymore. You'll have to live at the orphanage." he said. Abby stood up, completely forgetting about her favorite food. "WHAT? YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" she screeched. "Yes, we can." her dad said firmly. Abby stood up, grabbed Cinnamon, and tore out of the house. She ran as fast as she could away from there. To be continued...

Part Two:

Abby ran until she came to the stables where she kept her horse, Freedom. No one was around, as she made her way to her horses stall. Freedom greeted her with a low nicker. Abby laid her head on her horses cheek. "Hello, Freedom. You're going to have to live up to your name. Carry me away from here. To freedom." she whispered, crying softly. Freedom sensed her sadness, and nuzzled Abby's shoulder. Abby shook herself. "Okay. Let's get you tacked up." she said. She slipped Freedom's saddle and bridle on her, and swung herself up. She put Cinnamon in her saddlebag. "Okay, girl. Let's be as quiet as we can." she whispered. Freedom did as Abby wanted, and soon they were galloping across the Wyoming countryside. "We'll try and go as far as we can. I have a little money for food in my pocket." she said to her horse and dog. Then, she fell silent, calmed by her horses steady gait, and her dogs breathing.
